A análise foliar é uma ferramenta imprescindível na predição de possíveis desordens nutricionais e avaliação do estádio nutricional das plantas. Este procedimento só é efetivo se a amostragem for feita com padronização da posição da folha no ramo e do tipo de ramo. Objetivou-se com este trabalho definir a posição da folha no ramo e o tipo de ramo mais apropriado para diagnosticar o estádio nutricional de plantas de pinhão-manso. O ensaio consistiu de uma combinação fatorial (5 x 2), com cinco posições da folha no ramo (1º, 2º, 3º, 5º e 10º nós do ramo do ápice para a base) e dois tipos de ramo (vegetativo ou florífero) em delineamento inteiramente casualizado com quatro repetições. Cada amostra de folha foi colhida em 4 ramos secundários de 20 plantas na fase de florescimento. As folhas das posições 2 e 3 são as mais adequadas para análise foliar de N, P, K, S, Cu, Fe, Mn e Zn, pois apresentam valores médios mais estáveis quando comparadas com as demais posições estudadas. As folhas nas posições 5 ou 10 são mais apropriadas para avaliação de Ca e Mg. O estádio fenológico do ramo não influencia os teores de nutrientes, exceto de Cu e Fe.

The chemical analysis of flowers has been studied for some crops. In coffee trees, the flower tissue analysis could anticipate the nutritional diagnosis. This study aimed to: (i) compare the mineral composition of coffee flowers and leaves; and to (ii) generate reference values for nutritional diagnosis of coffee trees, based on flower and leaf analysis. Nutrient content of flowers and leaves and coffee productivity were evaluated in 26 commercial farms located in Manhuaçu, MG, Brazil throughout three years. The critical nutrient content range in flowers are respectively: 2.78 - 3.17, 0.23 - 0.28, 2.80 - 3.12, 0.30 - 0.37, 0.24 - 0.30, 0.15 - 0.18 dag kg-1 of N, P, K, Ca, Mg, and S; and 17 - 21, 12 - 18, 52 - 80, 26 - 43, and 28 - 48 mg kg-1 of Zn, Cu, Mn, Fe, and B. For leaves, the critical nutrient ranges are respectively: 2.63 - 2.86, 0.13 - 0.14, 2.13 - 2.33, 1.04 - 1.22, 0.27 - 0.33, 0.15 - 0.18 dag kg-1 of N, P, K, Ca, Mg, and S; and 9 - 14, 15 - 23, 80 - 115, 99 - 148, and 31 - 37 mg kg-1 of Zn, Cu, Mn, Fe, and B. The nutritional diagnosis of coffee trees for N, P, Ca, Fe, Cu, and Mn can be anticipated using flower analysis.

The physic nut is an important plant for biodiesel production. However, research is still lacking as to the best leaves to be sampled in determining ideal mineral content. It is important that all factors causing variations in the mineral nutrient concentrations in leaves are identified and evaluated to determine the most efficient sampling technique. The positions of the leaves on the branches and on the plant shoot are critical variables affecting leaf composition. Thus, this study aimed to determine the best leaf position for sampling to evaluate the health status of adult physic nut plants. The experiment was conducted in the field, using a 5 × 3 factorial design, with leaves sampled at five positions on the branch (1 st , 2 nd , 3 rd , 4 th , and 5 th node, from the apex), and three sections of the plant crown (apical, middle, and basal), in a completely randomized design with four replications, and four plants per plot. The concentration of macronutrients (N, P, Ca, Mg, and S) and micronutrients (Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn) were determined for all samples. The results indicated that the sampling of leaves at the 3 rd and 4 th node of the flower-bearing branches, located in the middle section of the plant canopy, was the most indicative of the mineral composition of adult jatropha plants.
