Research using anaerobic filters as alternative materials to gravel becomes fundamental, especially if they are low cost, accessible and have high efficiency in the treatment of swine wastewater. This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of anaerobic filters with different types of support media, as an alternative to gravel, in the treatment of swine wastewater. We carried out the experiment in a completely randomized design. The treatments were composed of anaerobic filters with four different media (gravel, bamboo, luffa sponge and foam), three replications in a time-repeated measurements scheme (0, 60, 120, 180 and 240 days post-filter establishment). To determine the efficiency of removal by the filters, we performed analysis of turbidity, total solids, biochemical oxygen demand (bod), total n and total p in the affluent to and effluent from the filters. Among the alternative media, bamboo presented an efficiency of removal of the evaluated attributes similar and, in most cases, superior to gravel. From 60 to 180 days of filter operation, the luffa sponge remained with high turbidity and total solids removals, with the greatest decrease at 240 days of operation. After two months of filter operation, the alternative support media exhibited bod and total n removal similar to that of gravel. At 240 days of operation, the filters containing luffa sponge and bamboo showed the highest total p removal.

INTRODUÇÃOA humanidade, após o advento da Revolução Industrial, vem modificando e interferindo, quase sempre negativamente, o equilíbrio dos ecossistemas terrestres. As atividades, produtos e serviços desenvolvidos pelo homem geram subprodutos que quando não tratados adequadamente implicam em prejuízos à saúde pública e ao meio ambiente. Além disso, o crescimento desordenado das cidades, o aumento populacional e a intensificação do consumo são fatores que tem como consequências, entre outras, a degradação dos recursos naturais e geração de resíduos e rejeitos de forma mais intensa que a capacidade de assimilação da natureza.Nesse contexto, no Brasil, o setor de saneamento vem recebendo maiores investimentos nos últimos anos, e o aumento da prestação desse serviço reflete no volume crescente da produção de resíduos de composição complexa e destinação final problemática. Entre os resíduos do saneamento básico, os lodos provenientes das Estações de Tratamento de Água (ETA's) e Estações de Tratamento de Esgoto (ETE's) destacam-se pela grande quantidade gerada e pelos custos elevados para disposição final adequada (PEGORINI; ANDREOLI, 2006). Dessa forma, o gerenciamento correto dos resíduos sólidos, incluindo os do saneamento, é tão necessário que a Agenda 21, documento produzido durante a Conferência das Nações Unidas sobre o Meio Ambiente e Desenvolvimento (Rio 92), dedicou um Capítulo completo (Capítulo 21) para tratar do manejo ambientalmente saudável desses resíduos. O documento preconiza que mudanças nos padrões não sustentáveis de produção e consumo são fundamentais para conciliar o desenvolvimento com a proteção do meio ambiente, também defende a adoção da reutilização, reciclagem e destinação final adequada para promoção do manejo sustentável dos resíduos (CONFERÊNCIA DAS NAÇÕES UNIDAS SOBRE O MEIO AMBIENTE E DESENVOLVIMENTO, 1997). O tratamento de esgotos gera além do efluente tratado, que é o objetivo do tratamento, gases e lodo. Para ser lançado no meio ambiente o efluente tratado deve atender padrões de qualidade, conforme estabelece a legislação. Os gases gerados, por sua vez, podem ser aproveitados para uso energético ou lançados na atmosfera. Já o lodo, que agrega a maior parte da matéria orgânica presente no esgoto bruto, é um desafio para as ETE's, pois além dos sólidos orgânicos o lodo concentra metais pesados e patógenos que oferecem riscos de contaminação do meio ambiente e da população que direta ou indiretamente entrem em contato com o mesmo (LIMA, 2010). Assim, dependendo da forma de destinação final do lodo, é necessário que o mesmo passe por processos específicos de tratamento. No Brasil, a Resolução n° 375/2006 do Conselho Nacional do Meio Ambiente (CONAMA) determina quais os parâmetros de qualidade para o lodo e produtos derivados destinados ao reuso agrícola. Por exemplo, para ser utilizado como insumo na agricultura o lodo deve ser tratado de modo a reduzir as concentrações de patógenos, o teor de umidade e o teor de matéria orgânica volátil.A redução do teor de umidade pode ser realizada...

Swine production is characterized as a potentially harmful activity to the environment. Therefore, it is necessary to find alternatives that can minimize problems caused by this activity. Among the alternatives, we highlight the use of deep litter, which provides a breeding system that promotes the treatment of waste in solid form. The digester is used as an adjunctive treatment to the deep litter as this alone is not sufficient to remove all content of polluting waste. The objective of study was to evaluate the efficiency of laboratory digesters in reducing pollutant loads from swine deep litter. Deep litter composed of wood shavings and sugarcane bagasse was used. Samples were collected at the inlet and outlet of the biodigester. Six model laboratory batch digesters with a volume of 20 liters were used in treatment. For the efficiency reduction pollutants manure analysis, the following physical-chemical parameters were analyzed in the inlet and outlet: Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Total Solids (TS), total nitrogen, total phosphorus and pH. The mean removal efficiencies of BOD, COD, TS were 53.38; 54.53% and 44.97%, respectively. Based on the results it was found that the anaerobic treatment system was effective to reduce and stabilize the organic matter of the manure. There was an increase in total nitrogen and total phosphorus after treatment, which makes its favorable for use as a biofertilizer. There were no significant changes in pH indicating good tamponade of the system.
