Pa… Show more

“…), respectively. Similar behavior was observed by Kreutz, Passig, Carvalho, Mees, and Gomes (2014) that verified 59% of organic matter removal in the same configuration of the reactor treating raw cattle slaughterhouse effluent; and Abreu and Zaiat (2008) that obtained removal of 37% to COD when an anaerobic-aerobic reactor was operated with θ t of 8 hours, increasing to 46% when the θ t was reduced to 6 hours in the treatment of sewage.…”

“…Step II, with recirculation, a reduction of the bicarbonate alkalinity along the height of the AAFBR of 586 ± 75 to 294 ± 220 mgCaCO 3 L -1 for θ of 11 h and 963 ± 150 to 625 ± 263 mgCaCO 3 L -1 for θ of 8 h. ABREU & ZAIAT (2008) evaluated the performance of an anaerobicaerobic reactor filled with polyurethane foam for the treatment of sewage, operated with θ of 12h, and also confirmed the reduction of bicarbonate alkalinity of 143 ± 38mgCaCO 3 L -1 in the affluent and 58 ± 62mgCaCO 3 L -1 in the effluent when the reactor was operated in combined condition.…”

“…Mockaitis et al [24] verified a concentration of 12200 mgL -1 of volatile solids, which resulted in COD removal of 78.0%. Abreu and Zaiat [37] verified an attachment of 3350 mgL -1 of volatile solids, with a COD removal of 64.0%. Although the differences of biofilm amount in the reactors, they all presented satisfactory performance in organic matter removal, as well as reported by Fia et al [38], when compared to slag, foam and crashed stone.…”
