RESUMONo período de Janeiro a Dezembro de 1989 foram realizadas coletas de Crustáceos Anfípodos, na praia de Piedade, litoral do Município de Jaboatão dos Guararapes -PE, ao sul da cidade do Recife, com o objetivo de se inventariar a fauna local. Essas coletas ocorreram durante as marés de baixamar mais baixas. Os animais foram obtidos na zona intertidal, com o auxílio de peneiras, puçás, redes de arrasto e pinças. Dados abióticos foram registrados simultaneamente. Foi identificado um total de oito espécies, distribuidas em seis famílias. Suas dimensões variaram entre 2,0 mm e 9,5 mm. A temperatura da água variou entre 26,5ºC e 32,5ºC; e a salinidade oscilou de 22,46 %o para 36,85 %o. A família mais bem representada foi Atylidae, com a espécie Atylus taupo, ocorrendo pela primeira vez na área estudada. A referida espécie foi encontrada em todos os meses do ano, inclusive com representantes ovígeros, com um elevado número de espécimes. As famílias Hyalidae e Ampithoidae, foram as segundas mais representativas, com as espécies Hyale grimaldi e Ampithoe ramondi. A diversidade das espécies mostrou-se muito baixa. A associação das amostras apresentou três grandes grupos. As espécies Parhyalella sp. e Melita orgasmo foram registradas pela primeira vez no estado de Pernambuco; e Atylus taupo é uma nova ocorrência para o Atlântico Ocidental, sendo a mesma até o presente estudo referida apenas para a Nova Zelândia.Palavras chave : Crustáceos, Anfípodos, Praia de Piedade, Litoral de Pernambuco. ABSTRACT Crustacean Amphipoda Gammaridea of the Piedade Beach-Jaboatão dosGuararapes-Pernambuco-Brazil Crustacea Amphipoda were collected for taxonomia studies from January to December /1989 at Piedade beach (Jaboatão dos Guararapes-PE) south of Recife City. Sampling were carried out at low tide. Animals were collected from intertidal zone using screens, nets and tweezers. Abiotic data were obtained for comparing with Amphipoda occurrence. A total of eight species were identified belonjing to 6 families, varying from 2,0 mm to 9,5 mm long. Water temperature varid from 26,5ºC to 32,5ºC the salinity varied from 22,46%o to 36,85%º. The most abundant family was Atylidae, mainly, Atylus taupo, registered by the first time to the area. This specie occurred during all year, in ovigerous state and with high specimem number. The families Hyalidae and Ampithoidae were secondly important, with the species Hyale grimaldii and Ampithoe ramondi, respectively. Species diversity was low. Samples association presented three

A new species of the family Melitidae Bousfield, 1973, Melita petronioi sp. nov., is described with material collected from Patos Lagoon, coast of the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil. The new species is the unique species of Melita Leach, 1814 in Brazilian waters with urosomites 1 and 2 lacking spines, but urosomite 2 bearing two sets of dorsal stout setae, and the uropod 3 with the outer ramus 2-articulate. It is the first Melita species recorded to the southern region of the country.

Th e amphipod Quadrivisio lutzi (Shoemaker, 1933) (Maeridae) inhabits the coastal lagoons of southeastern Brazil, which are highly unstable environments. Drastic reduction in the abundance and distribution of this amphipod on these lagoons has been observed. Th e constant recovery of its populations suggests that this species may show a reproductive strategy that helps it to persist on these environments. Th erefore, our aim was to study the reproductive biology of this species in Carapebus lagoon and to answer the question if its reproductive strategy contributes to a rapid population recovery. Th e size-range at sexual maturity was determined by the relative growth of the gnathopods and by the number of articles in antennal fl agella. Brood size, egg diameter, size at fi rst maturity and other relative reproductive parameters were obtained, which were compared to other species using a multivariate Principal Component Analysis (PCA). Females reach maturity at smaller size-range (2.9-3.9 mm body length (BL) than males (4.9-5.9 mm BL). Mean egg diameter was small (0.35 ± 0.08 mm) and fecundity was high (20.2 ± 9.2 eggs/female; maximum 48 eggs). Th e relative reproductive parameters observed in Q. lutzi suggest it as iteroparous species. Th e PCA situated Q. lutzi within the species of high reproductive potential, characterized by small female size at fi rst maturity, small egg diameter, large brood size and iteroparity, which have been largely considered adaptations that allow rapid recovery of population sizes. Th erefore, we concluded that the reproductive strategy of this species contributes to its survival in the highly unstable Carapebus lagoon at southeastern Brazil.
