Use of depressants in the direct flotation of a silicate-carbonate phosphate ore

Abstract: A high demand for mineral resources observed in recent decades has led to an expansion in production in the mining industry. Different process alternatives have been proposed for selective separation between apatite and contaminants (carbonates and silicates) present in phosphate ores. Magnetic separation, calcination and gravity separation processes are methods that present low efficiency and high cost. Flotation is the most common process; however the selectivity is hampered by the superficial similarity of … Show more

“…Em razão do consumo elevado e do custo deste reagente, pesquisas estão sendo desenvolvidas acerca da utilização de reagentes alternativos para serem empregados como depressores [17]. Amidos/farinhas provenientes do arroz [18], batata [19], inhame [20], mandioca [21], cana-de-açúcar [22], sorgo [23] e milheto [24] já foram testados como possíveis substitutos ao milho.…”

“…Performance of residual potato starch as depressant in the direct anionic flotation of phosphate ore are biodegradable, nontoxic, less expensive, and more stable. Starch is the main example of this category (Souza et al, 2014).…”

“…This scenario led to the development of technologies, so that it would be possible to make better use of this more complex ore. Thus, there are studies seeking to optimize concentration routes, which allow the production of phosphate concentrates within the market specifications for fertilizer production (SOUZA et al, 2014;GUIMARÃES et al, 2004).…”

“…To work around this situation, reagents have been developed so that flotation presents selectivity. Studies such as those performed by Souza et al (2014), Oliveira (2007), Carneiro (2018), Carneiro et al (2021), Guimarães et al (2004), Martins et al (2019), Oliveira et al (2019), among many others presented in the literature, bring fundamental studies, in addition to analyzing the performance of collectors and depressants. They show this scientific initiative in the search for optimal conditions in phosphate ore flotation operations.…”
