INTRODUÇÃODurante sua vida útil os concretos refratários precisam não somente resistir e tolerar altas temperaturas como também ter um bom desempenho frente a tensões mecânicas e térmicas, assim como, ao ataque de líquidos como metais, escórias fundidas, etc. [1,2]. O molhamento da superfície dos refratários, por metais fundidos ou pela mistura escória + metal, afeta significativamente o comportamento de corrosão e erosão dos materiais aplicados em canais de corrida no processo siderúrgico e também influencia negativamente na qualidade do metal produzido, devido às impurezas contidas no refratário -escória -metal e suas interações físicas e químicas [3]. A extensão do espalhamento de um líquido indica como ele molha a superfície de um sólido e geralmente este efeito é quantificado pelo ângulo de contato (θ) gerado no ponto triplo entre as fases em equilíbrio (Fig. 1) , visando promover um maior entendimento das reações químicas que podem ocorrer na interface dos materiais avaliados. Foi observado que a composição química do líquido afetou diretamente o espalhamento deste e quanto maior o teor de MgO na composição da escória, maiores foram os valores do ângulo de contato entre líquido e sólido. No entanto, em altas temperaturas e tempos prolongados, foram verificadas a formação de bolhas na superfície do líquido e a infiltração das escórias nos poros do refratário. Estes fatores afetaram negativamente e tornaram menos conclusivos os dados coletados nos ensaios propostos, apontando que ainda são necessários aperfeiçoamentos da técnica de molhabilidade para a avaliação de materiais complexos, tais como os concretos refratários.
