Local structures and electronic band states of α-Fe2O3 polycrystalline particles included in the red-color overglazes and the transparent glazes of the Kakiemon-style porcelains by means of X-ray absorption spectra (i)

Abstract: Kakiemon-style porcelain is mainly characterized by the porcelain body of white color or milky-white color and the elegant and bright patterns of the colored overglazes on its white body. The porcelains were first developed and completed by Kakiemon-kiln family in 1650-80's. The red-color overglazes and the transparent glazes of the present porcelain pieces, which were produced in the early 17th century to the middle 18th century, have been investigated by means of X-ray absorption spectrum using synchrotron r… Show more

“…Although Takada’s report constitutes a pioneering study that tried to scientifically elucidate the essence of akae , the effect of particle dispersibility of hematite and its microstructure on the color of akae remains insufficiently understood. Recently, although some detailed investigations have been done into akae of the old Imari and Chinese porcelain from the historical viewpoint by using a state-of-the-art analytical method, the essential coloring mechanism of akae is still not clear. ,, …”

“…Recently, we have studied the structural and electronic properties of the red-colored overglazes on the HIZEN colored porcelains, produced at Arita areas from the 17 th to 18 th century, by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray absorption spectrum (XAS), using synchrotron radiation [18][19][20]. In the present paper, we report the technical and historical correlations among the celadon glazes of the HIZEN celadons produced in the Edo period by means of the same methods of the XRD and XAS using synchrotron radiation, in addition to X-ray fl uorescence analysis.…”
