Show more

“…Figure 6 shows the metallographic analysis performed in the 304L stainless steel. From Figure 6, it is possible to verify that the microstructure of the base metal of AISI 304L stainless steel consists mainly of austenite grains with the presence of a small amount of delta ferrite (elongated dark phase) [20]. It is also possible to observe in the microstructure of 304L steel (as received) an austenite matrix with some dark particles which are reported as carbides [21].…”

“…The authors comment that the stainless steel can be applied on parts of the components that are exposed to aggressive environments, and, in the remainder, which are under mechanical stress only, carbon steel can be applied. Wu et al [1] and Lima et al [2] emphasize the application of dissimilar unions in nuclear plants, to connect stainless steel pipes to low alloy steels components. Campos et al [3], in addition to the application of dissimilar unions in nuclear power generation plants, mention that dissimilar welds of carbon steel, stainless steel, and some nickel alloys are widely used in components subject to high-temperature environments, and in the chemical and petrochemical industries.…”
