An investigation of the behavior of a classifying hydrocyclone with pseudoplastic fluids

Abstract: -The procedure usually employed for specifying a set of hydrocyclones used in Newtonian fluidsolid separation processes can be extended to the case of non-Newtonian fluids. The apparent viscosity, μ app , is the link between the two cases, and can be evaluated from the knowledge of the shear stress function, S, and the characteristic rate of shear, λ*. In order to verify the validity of this, experiments using suspensions of different solids in an aqueous solution of carboxymethylcellulose (CMC), with pseudopl… Show more

“…Obtaining of certain recommendations for monitoring strategy from these models is very difficult [22,23,32]. According to many authors [7,8,14,15,17,19,21,27,28,29,30,31,33] the cut point and other characteristics of hydrocyclone work depend on many technical parameters of device and feed features. Generally, it is accepted that exponential and multiplied models are in use.…”

“…Thus, for the application of the mathematical models obtained in this study in the prediction of field conditions, correlations should be used. Several experimental and numerical works reported in the literature present expressions or procedures to account the effects of these variables on capacity, pressure drop and separation efficiency or cut diameter of the hydrocyclones (Braun and Bohnet, 1990;Davailles et al, 2012;Scheid et al, 2013;Kawatra et al, 1996). It's important to state that experimental tests in conditions similar to those encountered in the field are required to validate and confirm the predicted results.…”
