Adsorption of light alkanes on coconut nanoporous activated carbon

Abstract: -This paper presents experimental results for adsorption equilibrium of methane, ethane, and butane on nanoporous activated carbon obtained from coconut shells. The adsorption data were obtained gravimetrically at temperatures between 260 and 300K and pressures up to 1 bar. The Toth isotherm was used to correlate the data, showing good agreement with measured values. Low-coverage equilibrium constants were estimated using virial plots. Heats of adsorption at different loadings were also estimated from the equi… Show more

“…Furthermore, S 0 and G 0 changes should be considered to determine whether the process is spontaneous. The Gibbs free energy change indicates if the adsorption process is spontaneous and higher negative value reflects a more energetically favorable adsorption [59]. The results of experiments are indicated in Fig.…”

“…Improving the energy efficiency of fossil-fired power generation is one of the fundamental measures to reduce emission of greenhouse gases. Other techniques to reduce CO 2 emissions into the atmosphere include: (i) replacement of fossil fuels with cleaner fuels or fuels with lower carbon content or nuclear energy, (ii) increasing the use of fuels from renewable interaction between porous carbon structure and acid molecules through various interactions such as dipole-dipole, H-bonding, covalent bonding, and so on [20]. A simple KOH treatment was also applied to functionalize the carbon surface.…”
