Liquid - liquid equilibria of the water + butyric acid + decanol ternary system

Abstract: -Liquid-liquid equilibrium (LLE) data for the water + butyric acid + decanol ternary system were determined experimentally at temperatures of 298.15, 308.15 and 318.15 K. Complete phase diagrams were obtained by determining the solubility curve and the tie lines. The reliability of the experimental tie line data was confirmed with the Othmer-Tobias correlation. The UNIFAC method was used to predict the phase equilibrium of the system using the interaction parameters for groups CH 3 , CH 2 , COOH, OH and H 2 O … Show more

“…The physical equilibrium of butyric acid using different diluents (1-decanol, sunflower oil, and soybean oil) at different temperatures (298.15–318.15 K) is demonstrated in Tables – . The physical extraction performance using 1-decanol is comparable with that in the study by Kirbaslar . 1-Decanol shows better extraction of BA than sunflower oil, followed by soybean oil.…”

“…Kirbaslar reported the physical extraction data of butyric acid using 1-decanol. The distribution coefficient varied in the range of 5.4–6.4 . Fourteen different carboxylic acids including butyric acid were extracted employing tri- n -octyl phosphine oxide (TOPO) in hexane at 308.15 K .…”
