Experimental study and simulation of mass distribution of the covering layer of soybean seeds coated in a spouted bed

Abstract: -In previous work, it was observed that the covering of soybean seeds with bacteria and micronutrients enhances vigorous growth of the plant thereby avoiding use of ammoniacal fertilizers. In the spouted bed covering can be done by pulverization of the coater slurry on the soybean seeds using a pneumatic atomizer. The optimum thickness of the cover allows the fundamental gaseous interchanges for germination and provides the ideal conditions for bacterium activity. The objective of this work was to study the in… Show more

“…A number of factors, including pH, oxygen concentration, moisture content, temperature and metallic acid catalysts (Uddin et al, 2002), influence vitamin C activity. One of the food industry goals is to preserve the maximum product nutrient content during processing and storage (Duarte et al, 2004), and, according to Gregory (1996), this may be evaluated using ascorbic acid as an index of the nutrient quality.…”

“…The atomizing nozzle was positioned above the fountain in a radial position of 0.66R from the centre, where R is the radius of the cylindrical part of the bed. The off-centre radial position (0.66R) for the nozzle atomizer was chosen based on the results obtained by Duarte (2001), which verified that in this position a smaller elutriation and a greater efficiency of the atomized material is obtained. A draft tube was used to avoid the return of the seeds to the spout region, before reaching the base of the bed.…”
