Initially attributed to the individual initiative of some Portuguese Africanists (Pélissier, 1980, p. 33), such shifts would in the meantime be considered as ideological byproducts of the political reaction of the upper cadres of Portuguese colonialism to the radical transformation of the geopolitical context, throughout 1950s (Gallo, 1988; see also Alexandre, 2017, chap. 11; Curto and da Cruz, 2015; and Margarido, 1975).…”

“…Using bibliographical sources, both primary and secondary, as well as archival documents, this paper will address CEGP's immediate context and main actors, institutional setting, research activities, publications, and other scientific outlets, and will then offer some concluding remarks regarding the epistemic reach of overseas governmental measures and the practical effects, in metropolitan colonial policies and scientific research, of peripheral imperial bureaucratic knowledge 3. More generally, this paper is intended to contribute to a larger and ongoing discussion on late colonialism, as very briefly schematized in this introduction, and to the advancement of an historical sociology of theoretical approaches, research methods, and scientific concepts that aims to contribute to a clearer understanding of their respective fields of application (Ágoas, 2017).…”
