Show more

“…The prevalence of NIHL found in this study corroborates most of the literature findings 2,6,8,9,16 , confirming world statistical data, which characterizes NIHL as a public health problem 14,17,18 , besides being the second most common form of sensorineural hearing loss, after presbycusis 7 . We noticed that the mean value of audiometric thresholds and the presence of a NIHL-suggestive notch 6,9,20 were significant in the high frequencies.…”

“…Nonetheless, in the metallurgical setting, the noise spectrum found presented a spectral frequency peak of 8 kHz. It is known that this frequency (8 kHz) is located in a region near that of the highest cochlear vulnerability 2,4,8 . In the assessments carried out among the different industries, we found a sound pressure level higher than 100 dB, with a daily dose higher than what is allowed by law (100%).…”

“…Workers exposed to noise have predominantly bilateral tinnitus of the "wheezing" kind", more frequently during the night and correlated with the level of noise. The longer the exposure and the higher the level of sound pressure, the greater the occurrence of tinnitus 25,26 . Such results are consistent with the present study, as the musicians who had been longer in the band, and rehearsed for more days and hours presented tinnitus more frequently.…”

“…In a study about the effects of noise in workers of a marble factory in the Federal District, the prevalence of hearing loss was found to be 48% in the studied sample, and the most affected frequency was 6 KHz, particularly for the left ear 15 . As for such asymmetry, the left ear was found to be more susceptible lesion by noise, however, such study does not present evidence for such statement.…”
