Objective: To know the vulnerability in adolescents’ daily life during the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: Qualitative research carried out with 25 adolescents from a public school in a municipality in southern Brazil in the second half of 2021 through individual semi-structured interviews. Data were submitted to thematic content analysis and interpreted with the vulnerability theoretical framework. Results: These adolescents’ daily lives during the COVID-19 pandemic presented difficulties in keeping family members working, changing habits and routines, accessing classes, the internet and increasing intra-family violence. Conclusion: Vulnerability in adolescents’ daily life during the pandemic can be identified as the absence of interaction in the school context and access to learning resources, reflecting on individual and social vulnerability. Unemployment and possible access to other sources of income have an impact on programmatic vulnerability. Reflection on practices in the context of health and school is suggested, based on the vulnerability identified in adolescents’ daily lives during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A model for implementing international networking within the pandemic conditions

The introduction of a network form of participants' interaction in the educational process, which gives a number of advantages in the implementation of educational programs, received a lively positive response from both universities and students. The possibility of academic mobility, which was (until recent times) an integral part of the network type of the educational process, allowed to increase the level of theoretical and practical training of students studying a foreign language. It contributed to the language immersion, which is necessary for the formation of communicative and socio-cultural competence in the learning process. The introduction of Coronavirus restrictions and, as a result, the closure of borders led to the impossibility of this component implementing. The study aims to develop a remote form of network interaction that contributes to the formation of necessary competencies among students studying a foreign language during a pandemic. The methods of pedagogical observation, experimental training, generalization and pedagogical modeling, as well as theoretical analysis of scientific achievements in the field of implementation of the traditional network form of education were used in the work. The fundamental principles of the remote organization of the educational process in a network form are highlighted; a model of the distance course “Academic Writing” (which is a component of the master’s program “Theory of Translation and Intercultural Communication”), is developed; the format of remote network interaction in the framework of international cooperation with the British training center IBC Coaching in a pandemic is tested, the possibilities of using the developed model for teaching individual modules of other disciplines are considered (at the master’s level and at the bachelor’s level as well).

Higher Education has become an increasingly competitive field, and knowledge, its essence, has become a global commodity. Consequently, universities all over the world have been under pressure to respond to growing new demands quickly, dynamically and creatively. In the Brazilian context, overcoming the challenges that these Higher Education institutions face requires a significant effort to adapt and change, especially by public universities. In this essay we analyze the main challenges of Brazilian Higher Education institutions, especially those resulting from the Coronavirus crisis. We focus on challenges such as quality of Higher Education, funding and academic management. To this end, we explore some of the main changes that Higher Education institutions have undergone over time. We also highlight some alternative paths for those challenges, including reflections on opportunities that have arisen following the pandemic.
