Modification of hydrophobic polypeptide-based film by blending with hydrophilic poly(acrylic acid)

Abstract: Abstract:In this study, a series of poly(γ-benzyl L-glutamate)/poly(acrylic acid) (PBLG/PAA) polymer blend films were prepared by casting the polymer blend solution in dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO). The structure and morphology of the polymer blend film were investigated by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Thermal, mechanical, and chemical properties of PBLG/PAA polymer blend films were studied by Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermogravimetric (TG) … Show more

“…Blending with PAN can improve the conductivity of pristine PVA. Previously, PAN was used as SPE due to its excellent tensile strength 15 . The hydroxyl group of PVA and the nitrile group of PAN are expected to exchange hydrogen bonds upon combination.…”

“…PVA's melting temperature dropped as a result of the mixture, which partially reduced the segments' crystallinity 16 . Additionally, the blending of these two polymers is expected to provide more electron‐donating groups (N and O, which behave as Lewis bases), which can raise the blend polymer film's ionic conductivity 15,17 . Different combinations of blend electrolytes along with their conductivity have been shown in Table 1.…”

“…Another report demonstrated that the introduction of a polyacrylonitrile part improved the hydrophobicity of the polymer blend films [ 25 ]. The preparation of polypeptide-based film blending with poly(acrylic acid) is a good example of a hydrophilic–hydrophobic blend film production [ 26 ].…”
