Objective: To characterize the profile of suicide attempts treated at an emergency department in the municipality of Arapiraca, state of Alagoas, Brazil, from 2009 to 2012. Methods: We analyzed all emergency department records containing a diagnosis of suicide attempt. Data were evaluated using Student's t test and Pearson's chi-square test. Significance was accepted at po0.05. Results: We identified 2,142 cases. Suicide attempts were more frequent among women and young adults, but deaths were more frequent among men. Suicide attempts were most frequent among patients aged 10 to 39 years (81.1%). Drug intoxication (65.0%) and non-drug poisoning (16.2%) were significantly more prevalent than other methods of suicide. The month of April (10.6%) accounted for the greatest number of cases, and July had the smallest number (5.5%). Suicide attempts were most prevalent in spring (28.3%), on Sundays (18.4%) and Saturdays (16.8%), and from 12:00 p.m. to 5:59 p.m. Conclusion: Suicide prevention measures should focus on young women. Further research into the care provided to suicide attempters and better monitoring of the sale and use of medicines and poisons could be useful.

Objective: Discussing the factors associated with major depression and suicide risk among nursing professionals. Method: An integrative review in PubMed/MEDLINE, LILACS, SciELO and BDENF databases, between 2003 and2015. Results: 20 published articles were selected, mostly from between 2012 and 2014, with significant production in Brazil. Nursing professionals are vulnerable to depression when young, married, performing night work and having several jobs, and when they have a high level of education, low family income, work overload, high stress, insufficient autonomy and a sense of professional insecurity and conflict in the family and work relationship. Suicide risk was correlated with the presence of symptoms of depression, high levels of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and low personal accomplishment; characteristics of Burnout Syndrome. Conclusion: Suicide risk among nursing professionals is associated with symptoms of depression and correlated with Burnout Syndrome, which can affect work performance.

ARTIGO ORIGINALRESUMO | Objetivo: Identificar o perfil sociodemográfico, ocupacional e clínico de trabalhadores readaptados de um hospital público. Método: Estudo transversal com 40 trabalhadores readaptados de um hospital universitário do Sul do Brasil. Para a coleta de dados utilizou-se um instrumento com questões relacionadas ao perfil sociodemográfico, ocupacional e clínico. Foram realizadas análises descritivas com frequências relativas e absolutas. Resultados: Houve predomínio do sexo feminino (72,5%), faixa etária entre 54 e 59 anos (35%) e escolaridade de nível técnico (37,5%). A maioria dos readaptados fazia parte da equipe de enfermagem (62,5%) e o principal motivo que desencadeou a readaptação foram os distúrbios osteomusculares, mentais e de comportamento. Conclusão: Infere-se que a readaptação dos profissionais pode estar relacionada com os fatores vivenciados no ambiente laboral dos hospitais. ABSTRACT | Objective:To establish the sociodemographic, occupational and clinical profile of labor readjusted workers at a public hospital. Method: Cross-sectional study conducted with 40 labor readjusted workers at a university hospital in Southern Brazil. Data collection was performed by means of an instrument with questions for sociodemographic, occupational and clinical profile. Descriptive analysis of relative and absolute frequencies was performed. Results: Female sex (72.5%), age range 54 to 59 years old (35%) and technical education level (37.5%) predominated. Most labor readjusted workers were members of the nursing staff (62.5%), and the main reasons for readjustment were musculoskeletal mental and behavioral disorders. Conclusion: One might infer that labor readjustment might related to factors present in the hospital work environment.
