Neutron correlations with electrical measurements in a Plasma Focus device

Abstract: The measurement of the voltage between electrodes and the discharge current time derivative in Plasma Focus devices can be used to obtain important information on the neutron-producing pinch stage of the mentioned devices. The analysis of a 60-shots experimental run in a 5.7 kJ Mather-type device results in correlations suggesting that the neutron yield depends mostly on the average energy per particle delivered to the plasma during the pinch stage.

“…This is the case when a correlation with the photomultiplier signals were attempted. As mentioned before, the voltage divider value, or the associated induced pinch voltage, was previously used in these kind of correlations for either X rays measurements with PMT or neutron yields [4], [24], [43]. It has been determined that the fast z-pinch developed in plasma focus devices depends on other variables as well [6].…”

“…Discrepancies of about a few ns can be expected due to the uncertainty in the measurement of the cable length from both sensors. Circuit current parameters have been used for correlations with scintillator-photomultiplier measurements [24] and for describing the scaling laws for the neutron yield of plasma focus [11], [27], [43]. Both current I p and rate of change of currentİ p at time of pinch were included in this analysis.…”
