Need of dark energy for dynamical compactification of extra dimensions on the brane

Abstract: We consider a six-dimensional braneworld model and we study the cosmological evolution of a (4+1) braneuniverse. Introducing matter on the brane we show that the scale factor of the physical three-dimensional brane-universe is related to the scale factor of the fourth dimension on the brane, and the suppression of the extra dimension compared to the three dimensions requires the presence of dark energy.

“…Hence this curvature quintessence has also of late somewhat fallen from grace. On the other hand , serious attempts are recently being made [8], [9], [10] to incorporate the phenomenon of accelerating universe within the framework of higher dimensional space time itself without involving any mysterious scalar field with large negative pressure by hand. The attempt to unify gravity with other forces in nature is an active field of research.…”

“…Extending directly the investigation in 5D [15], we focus on the case where the matter content of codimension -2 brane dominated that of the 6D bulk. The initial conditions in early Universe suggest [14] that the branes inflation might require almost empty bulk following the condition…”

“…As it was showed in [45,46], the introduction of a four-dimensional scalar curvature term on the brane, simply redefines the energy momentum tensor on the brane. If we go to the picture in which the brane is moving and the bulk is static, it can be shown [47,48], that the R term has the same effect, it redefines the energy momentum tensor in the junctions conditions which play the rôle of the equations of motion of the moving brane. In both pictures, there is an effective four-dimensional Einstein equation which describes consistently the cosmological evolution on the brane.…”
