Standardization of Ca-45 radioactive solution by tracing method

Abstract: The procedure followed by the Laboratório de Metrologia Nuclear (LMN) at the IPEN, in São Paulo, for the standardization of the 45 Ca is described. The activity measurement was carried out in a 4πβ-γ coincidence system, by the tracing method. The radionuclide chosen as the β-γ emitting tracer nuclide was 60 Co because of its end-point beta-ray energy which is close to 45 Ca. Six sources were prepared using a 1:1 ratio (β-pure and β-γ) dropped directly on the Collodion film, and other two solutions of 45 Ca + 6… Show more

“…Due to availability reasons 45 Ca was used instead of 60 Co in efficiency determination for 60 Co, but the beta energies of 60 Co (318 keV) and 45 Ca (257 keV) are adequately similar enabling the use of 45 Ca standard in this context. 60 Co standard has been used for determination of 45 Ca inversely in a corresponding way [24].…”
