PARASITOIDS OF Cerconota anonella (Sepp., 1830) (Lep.: Oecophoridae) IN SOURSOP (Annona muricata L.)ABSTRACT: The quantification of natural enemies actually living within a given crop is very important, because it helps in … Show more

“…Amongst the main natural enemies of C. anonella are species of Cotesia (Hymenoptera: Braconidae, Microgastrinae), but this parasitoid is not effective. In a field survey of the biological forms of C. anonella and its natural enemies carried out by Broglio‐Micheletti (1999), the presence of a total of 2019 specimens of the pest were reported together with 991 parasitic species (pupae, parasitic larvae and adults) of Cotesia , Rhysipolis and Xiphosomella . However, the incidence of parasitism of the pest by these three species was low (ca 33%), although Cotesia species were regularly encountered, being present in nearly all of the affected fruit harvested.…”

“…Currently, therefore, in order to control the damage caused by C. anonella , farmers are forced to rely heavily on the use of insecticides and on specific culture practices such as the destruction of infested fruits and the protection of young fruits by covering them individually with perforated plastic bags (Arango 1975; Melo et al. 1983; Broglio‐Micheletti 1999).…”

“…Apanteles sp. is the main natural enemy of C. anonella larvae (Broglio‐Micheletti and Berti‐Filho ). Due to parasitic activity, the mortality of C. anonella is highest after eclosion and before entering the fruits and lower when the larva is inside the fruit (Fennah ).…”
