The pineapple is a fruit that has wide acceptance worldwide both in natural form, as industrialized. Your peel is a residue generated by food industries and from this residue can obtain a protein extract which is a good source of bromelain. This study aimed to obtain a protein extract from pineapple peel, evaluate its enzyme activity and its healing properties in skin lesions in rats. Seven animal groups were used: control, treated with 5% of protein extract, 10% of protein extract and pure protein extract; 5% of commercial bromelain, 10% of commercial bromelain and pure commercial bromelain. The animals were subjected to a tissue incision and treated for 21 days. Proteolytic and specific activities of the protein extract were 1.30 U mg -1 and 45 x 10 -3 U μg -1 and, for commercial bromelain, 1.04 U mg -1 and 6 x 10 -3 U μg -1 , respectively. In the histology of the lesion, there was no significant difference between the control and treated groups; however, macroscopically, the prepared topical formulations assisted in the recovery of skin lesions, providing a significant reduction in their width, in the groups treated with pure protein extract, 5 and 10% commercial bromelain, and pure bromelain.

The study of propolis and the amniotic membrane as alternatives to promote the acceleration of healing has grown considerably. These products have shown to be easy to use, have bactericidal or bacteriostatic action and are affordable. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the action of the amniotic membrane of bitches and propolis in the healing of surgical wounds. To evaluate the efficacy of these methods the time for conclusion of the healing process of both groups was compared with a control group. In addition, the inflammatory response of each group was also evaluated to identify which alternative method could induce a better response in the healing process compared to the control group. For this purpose, 27 animals, Rattus norvegicus, variety Wistar, were used. Rats were separated into 3 groups with 9 animals each. Group I represented the 25% alcoholic propolis solution; Group II, Amniotic membrane; Group III was Control group. Wounds were assessed macroscopically for the lesion area, and microscopically for the histological quality of each wound layer and the intensity of inflammation and collagen deposition. After the macroscopic analysis, it was observed that there were no statistical differences among the 3 groups (p> 0.05) relevant to accelerate the healing process in terms of presence of inflammatory cells, fibroblasts, collagen, neovascularization, granulation tissue and re-epithelialization.

A guaçatonga (Casearia sylvestris Sw.) tem longa história na tradição popular e amplo espectro de aplicação na medicina folclórica brasileira, sendo utilizada para diversos fins, como analgésico, anti-inflamatório, antiviral, anti-ulceroso e hemostático em lesões de pele e mucosas. O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a eficácia do tratamento tópico com soluções de Casearia sylvestris Sw. em lesões de pele experimentalmente induzidas em camundongos. Foram utilizados 15 animais aleatoriamente distribuídos em 3 grupos: GC (tratados com solução fisiológica), G1% (tratados com solução de guaçatonga a 1%) e G10% tratados com solução de guaçatonga a 10%). As feridas foram avaliadas e mensuradas nos dias 1, 4, 6, 8 e 13 após a indução das lesões. Não foram observadas diferenças estatísticas entre os tratamentos, todavia, observou-se cicatrização completa das feridas no grupo G1% em um prazo menor que os demais, o que sugere que o tratamento com guaçatonga a 1% apresente maior tendência à promoção da cicatrização. Novos estudos avaliando os efeitos de diferentes concentrações da planta em uma população maior de animais são necessários para melhor entendimento dos efeitos da Casearia sylvestris Sw. sobre o processo de cicatrização.
