“…Os valores de condutância estomática obtidos na primeira avaliação são próximos dos encontrados por Melo et al (2009) Terra Maranhão foi a cultivar que apresentou maior regulação da abertura estomática, contrariamente Tabela 3. Efeito da condutância estomática (mmol m -2 s -1 ) entre as cultivares dentro de cada lâmina de irrigação (0, 33, 66, 99 e 132% da evapotranspiração da cultura) aplicada na primeira (I) e na segunda (II) avaliação (1) .…”

“…The carboxylation instantaneous efficiency also depends on the availability of CO 2 in the leaf mesophyll, amount of light, temperature and enzymatic activity. Melo et al (2009) obtained a high correlation between photosynthesis rate and internal carbon concentration, evaluating fertigation in banana under K and N doses. Besides, with N application, there was an increase on the carboxylation instantaneous efficiency, in comparison to the plants with no application.…”

“…However, under higher N doses, the carboxylation instantaneous efficiency was reduced, possibly due to increases in the Rubisco oxygenase activity, in detriment of carboxylase. This causes a reduction in the carbon assimilation rate, even under a high N availability (Melo et al 2009). …”

“…Other factors like nutritional deficiency can also lead to a disability in controlling properly the stomatal opening. For example, proteins, enzymes or nutrients such as potassium, are directly related to the adjustment of the stomatal opening, and its deficiency may limit the photosynthetic activity (Melo et al, 2009). …”

“…The competition between weeds and crops leads to a lower supply of resources for some species -the less efficient in capturing that given resource, causing deficiencies that culminate in changes at physiological parameters related to photosynthesis. The water deficit (Floss, 2008), nutrition status (Melo et al, 2009) and low quality or quantity of light (Sharkey & Raschke, 1981) are usually the main ones. These limitations can lead to an unbalancing in processes like stomatal conductance and internal concentration of gases, and hence the photosynthetic activity and also the efficient use of water will be affected.…”
