In this study, Hisex Brown layers in lay were evaluated between 40 and 44 weeks of age to evaluate the inclusion of bacterial phytase (Ph) and sodium butyrate (SB) to diets containing different calcium levels (CaL). Performance, average egg weight and eggshell percentage, in addition to nutrient metabolizability and Ca and P balance were evaluated for 28 days. Birds were distributed according to a completely randomized experimental design with a 3x2x2 factorial arrangement, with three calcium levels (2.8, 3.3, 3.8%); the addition or not of phytase (500PhU/kg) and the addition or not of sodium butyrate (20mEq/kg), composing 12 treatments with eight replicates of one bird each. There was no additive effect of phytase or SB on the evaluated responses. Feed intake and feed conversion ratio were influenced by CaL, with the best performance obtained with 3.3% dietary Ca. Ca balance was positively affected by dietary Ca, and P balance by the addition of phytase. Ca dietary concentration, estimated to obtain Ca body balance, was 3.41%, corresponding to an apparent retention of 59.9% of Ca intake.

The present study aimed at evaluating the effect of the acidulating water inclusion of 600 Japanese quails in the final stages of production housed under different densities affect performance and egg quality. A completely randomized experimental design was applied with four treatments in a 2x2 factorial arrangement, being two densities of 24 and 36 birds per cage (corresponding to 141.67 and 94.44 cm2/bird, respectively) and two water diets (with or without acidulating) and five replicates each. The following performance, feed intake, egg weight, egg production, egg mass, feed conversion ratio (FCR kg/dz and FCR kg/kg) and mortality. RESUMOO presente estudo teve como objetivo comparar o desempenho de poedeiras comerciais da linhagem Isa Brown com idade entre 32 e 52 semanas, alimentadas com dieta à base de milho e farelo de soja. Foram alojadas 240 poedeiras, em gaiolas individuais, divididas ao acaso em seis tratamentos, com quarenta repetições cada um. Ofereceram-se água e ração ad libitum. Constituíram-se os seguintes tratamentos: T1 -controle (dieta basal=DB), T2 -DB + antibiótico, T3 -DB + mananoligossacarídeos (MOS) (0,05%), T4 -DB + antibiótico + MOS, T5 -DB + ácidos orgânicos/MOS (AOM) (0,1%) e T6 -DB + antibiótico + AOM. Analisaram-se as seguintes variáveis: peso corporal médio das aves, consumo médio diário de ração, pro-dução média de ovos, peso médio do ovo, média da massa de ovo, conversão alimentar média por dúzia de ovo, conversão alimentar média/massa de ovo, coloração da gema, altura média do albúmen, média da unidade Haugh, gravidade específica média, percentagem média de casca, tempo de armazenamento. Submeteram-se os dados a ANOVA e, quando o teste F foi significativo, compararam-se as médias através de contrastes ortogonais duas a duas pelo teste de Tukey a 5% de probabilidade. Os resultados indicam que, quando recebem AO ou MOS sem adição de antibiótico, as aves apresentam consumo médio diário de ração significativamente menor, sem alterar seu desempenho.
