Abstract: A área em estudo neste artigo, no Norte da Amazônia equatoriana, é a principal região de colonização por migrantes no país desde os Anos 70, e tem experimentado grandes mudanças em anos recentes, incluindo rápido crescimento populacional e urbano, fragmentação de lotes rurais, mudanças nas formas de uso da terra, e aumento na oferta de trabalho assalariado fora dos lotes.
