Dispersing carbon nanotubes in phenolic resin using an aqueous solution

Show more

“…There are also references about the surfactants use in carbon nanotubes (CNT) (graphene sheets coiled to form a cylindrical piece with a diameter close to 1nm) in the literature (Silva et al 2013;Botelho et al 2011;Vaisman et al 2006). According to Silva et al (2013), CNT have excellent properties, such as mechanical, electrical, magnetic, and thermal, but generally they are in highly homogeneous dispersion.…”

“…A comprehensive review for aqueous systems is given by Wang [118], who also outlines he thermodynamic driving forces and the role of metastability in the structure of surfactant dispersed SWCNT suspensions. Sonication is another method that can be applied (or rather, should be applied) for stabilization of carbon nanotube suspensions [119,120]. In general, this is found in publications as a standard experimental method and is thought necessary in most applications.…”

“…The unsonicated CNTs could not be dispersed in water; only 1 min under sonication process enabled a good dispersion, as observed in the previous work. 23 According to the literature, the period of time is estimated using light scattering and UV-vis analyses. In this work, the ratio between the CNT and surfactant was 2 and the CNT concentration in water was 1 mg per mL.…”
