Grafting of tetrahydrophthalic and maleic anhydride onto polyolefins in solution

Show more

“…[12] During the mixing process, the esterification reaction between the -COOH and -C O groups grafted onto M-LLDPE and hydroxyl functionality on the CAB can take place, forming a graft copolymer. [11,[15][16][17] The chemical bonding between both phases promotes a better stress transfer from the matrix to the reinforcing phase, leading to a higher tensile strength. In comparison with pure LLDPE or M-LLDPE, loss in elongation (e b ) was observed when the content of CAB in the blend was higher than 30 wt.-% [ Figure 3(d)].…”

“…[19] All diffractograms were decomposed following Lorentz function fits in order to quantify the area corresponding to the diffraction peaks (110) and (200) and to the amorphous halo, as exemplified in Figure 8 (Table 3). [11,16,19] The interplanar spacing d hkl was determined by applying Bragg's equation:…”

“…Maleic anhydride (MAH) has been used to modify PP in order to improve interfacial adhesion in polymeric composites. One of the most common methods to achieve polyolefin modification with MAH is reactive processing in the presence of a peroxide [9,10] . The main advantages of such reactive processing are the absence of solvent, short reaction time and the fact that it is a continuous process.…”
