Objective: To know the profile of women who formalized a police report at a specialized women's police station and to identify forms of violence suffered by them. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 902 police reports. The data collection instrument was based on selected social and demographic variables of the victims and aggressors, and data related to the type of violence. Descriptive statistic analysis was performed by using SPSS® version 17.0. Results: The profile was composed of young white women, with low educational levels, living in the suburbs. Over half of the reports contained complaints of physical violence, especially attempts of strangulation. Regarding sexual violence, we identified a predominance of rape committed by strangers or intimate partners. Psychological violence was reported in the occurrence of noncompliance to court orders as a new form of violence against women. The findings emphasized the recurrence of police reports by the same victim. Conclusion: The profile of women identified among the 902 police reports did not differ from the one described in the literature, and the forms of violence suffered were of a physical, sexual and psychological nature. ResumoObjetivo: Conhecer o perfil das mulheres que formalizaram ocorrência policial em delegacia especializada e identificar as formas de violência sofrida. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo transversal onde foram analisadas 902 ocorrências policiais. O instrumento de pesquisa foi elaborado com base nas variáveis sociodemográficas selecionadas das vítimas, dos agressores e sobre o tipo de violência. Foi realizada análise com estatística descritiva e utilização do software SPSS® versão 17.0. Resultados: O perfil foi de mulheres brancas, jovens, com baixo nível de escolaridade e com residência em bairros periféricos. A violência física esteve presente em mais da metade dos casos, com destaque para a tentativa de estrangulamento. Quanto à violência sexual houve predomínio do estupro por desconhecidos e parceiros íntimos. A violência psicológica apresentou o descumprimento de ordem judicial, como nova forma de violência contra a mulher. Há destaque para a reincidência de ocorrências policiais pela mesma vítima. Conclusão: O perfil das mulheres em 902 ocorrências policiais não difere daquele descrito na literatura e as formas de violência sofridas foram: física, sexual e psicológica.

The aim was to know how health assessment to women in violence situation is developed. Literature review on LILACS and MEDLINE databases was conducted in April 2013 with the descriptors: “domestic violence” and “women’s health”, on a 1994-2012 timeframe. Statistics characterization and content theme analysis of the scientific production were developed. Results showed that the assessment is permeated by institutional limitation and an approach strictly clinical that makes identification and diagnosis of violence difficult, reinforcing invisibility in health care. Professional assessment is influenced by socio-cultural and the naturalization of the phenomena, which is not considered a public health issue. Technical knowledge is insufficient, making the possibility of promoting violence cycle rupture difficult. However, we envisage reception as a possibility to assess female demands. We conclude the need to include the theme in health undergraduate courses and also the urgency of this learning experience to support a multidisciplinary and intersectoral work web. Thus, rethinking assessment as a way of (re)organizing how health care is structured in order to compose an assessment web to women and guarantee reception of their demands is needed. Else, constructing competence allied to coping public policy to the problem and guaranteeing a human and full assistance will stay only on the academic field, constituting itself as a limit on protecting life of these women and their families.

RESUMODevido aos impactos da violência na vida das mulheres, o Estado, o setor saúde e a sociedade civil a entendem como uma ação que anula os direitos humanos e consideram esta problemática importante no campo da pesquisa. Objetivo: apreender as necessidades assistenciais da mulher que denuncia, na delegacia de polícia, o vivido em situação de violência. Método: estudo na abordagem qualitativa pautado no referencial teórico-metodológico da Fenomenologia Social de Alfred Schütz. Desenvolvido em delegacias de um município do sul do Brasil mediante entrevista fenomenológica com 13 mulheres. Resultados: a intencionalidade da mulher para a ação de denunciar expressa as expectativas que remetem às necessidades assistenciais de justiça, de ajuda institucional e de proteção sua e dos filhos. Conclusão: a denúncia está relacionada às demandas institucionais e sociais, bem como sinaliza a importância de vislumbrar esta clientela na sua dimensão humana e social no mundo da vida.
