Influence of different kinds of rosins and hydrogenated resins on the setting time of Grossman cements

Abstract: In this study, the effect on the setting time by the addition of different kinds of rosin and hydrogenated resin on the Grossman cement powder was evaluated. The experiments were carried out following the American Dental Association’s specification number 57 for root canal sealers. For this analysis, different Grossman cement powders were prepared using different rosins (X, WW and WG) and hydrogenated resins (Staybelite and Staybelite ester 10). The study of the physicochemical properties of the Grossman cemen… Show more

“…Biosealer and Endofill ® showed statistically similar expansion values, probably attributed to the presence of rosin in their formulations (22% and 27%, respectively). According to Sousa‐Neto et al. (1998), the presence of rosin (natural resin) in a sealer plays an important role in its expansion, which might also explain the expansion results of the experimental sealer based on Copaifera multijuga oil‐resin.…”

“…It has excellent sealing properties when used as rootend filling material 15 , and presents interface adaptation similar to calcium silicate-based cements 16 . Zinc oxide and Eugenol cement (ZOE) may also be used with higher powder/liquid proportion 17 , favoring its insertion into root-end cavities.…”
