Abstract:In recent years, SUHIs (surface urban heat islands) have been greatly emphasized in urban climate studies, since it is one of the climate phenomena most influenced by human action. In this study, temporal and spatial variations of SUHIs in the cities of Ceres and Rialma (Brazil) were investigated; satellite Landsat 8 TIRS/OLI images from 2013 to 2016 were used for this purpose. The results showed that in all seasons, two relationships were observed, one positive and one negative. An NDV I (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) of 0.2 is the divider of this relationship: up to this value, the relationship is positive, that is, the higher the NDV I value, the higher the surface temperature, while the relationship is negative at an NDV I greater than 0.2. There was high seasonal variation in the SUHIs, with the highest intensities recorded in the spring and summer (±12 • C), and the lowest in the winter. These temporal variations were attributed to the annual cycle of precipitation, which directly involves the robustness of the Cerrado vegetation. SUHIs occupied, on average, an area three times larger than the area of SUCIs (surface urban cool islands). The highest values of SUCIs were observed in water bodies and in valley bottoms. Overall, SUHIs showed high intensities; however, a more intense core area, such as in large cities, was not observed.

Resumo -O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar quantitativamente os parâmetros biofísicos obtidos por sensoriamento remoto, para a área de abrangência da Bacia Hidrográfica do Rio Tapacurá Quantitative analysis of biophysical parameters of watershed by remote sensingAbstract -The objective of this work was to quantitatively evaluate the biophysical parameters, obtained by remote sensing, for the range area of the Tapacurá River Basin, in Pernambuco state, Brazil. Landsat 5-TM images of 7/10/1989, 7/6/2005, and 8/29/2007 were used. The images were registered with a polynomial geometric correction of first order. Radiometric calibration, reflectance, transmittance and planetary albedo were calculated and, subsequently, thematic maps of surface albedo, surface temperature and enhanced vegetation index (EVI) were generated. The surface albedo showed increasing average values between the 1989 and 2005 images, which indicates the urban territorial expansion. The image of 8/29/2007 showed the highest land surface temperature, followed by the temperatures showed in the images of 7/10/1989 and 7/6/2005, and the highest values were those of the urban networks. The 1989 image showed the highest average value for EVI, which indicates that there was a higher vegetation presence in that date.

ABSTRACT:Evidence of environmental impact on the Cerrado is characterised by the presence of large homogeneous pastures and agricultural areas, with the presence of very fragmented and scattered forest fragments. When these areas are abandoned due to low productivity, natural regeneration begins, which is influenced by environmental factors. The goal of the present study was to evaluate the forest cover temporal dynamics in anthropogenic areas and the influence of climate on natural regeneration in the Cerrado. The study site was an anthropogenic area that has been protected against the entrance of domestic animals and agriculture since 2002. Environments were identified, and natural regeneration dynamics were analysed by the use of vegetation indices calculated from satellite images. Statistical analysis Non-parametric Mann-Kendall was used to check the trend of the rain and the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index, multivariate analysis to verify the correlations and groups between the years of occurrence of El Niño and La Niña and the values of Normalized Difference Index. Natural regeneration in the Cerrado increased over time and was positively correlated with rainfall incidence. The process of recovery of degraded areas by natural regeneration technique proved efficient in the Cerrado, however, natural regeneration is negatively influenced by the weather phenomenon El Niño.
