Nefrotoxicidade dos aminoglicosídeos

Abstract: Aminoglycoside are frequently used due to its high efficacy against gram-negative bacteria and positive synergism with other antibiotics against gram-positive organisms. They are commonly used for prevention and treatment of infection complications after cardiothoracic surgery. The principal side effect of this class of antibiotics is nephrotoxicity, which may occur in up to 20% of the exposed patients. Although usually reversible, aminoglycosideinduced renal injury prolongs hospitalization time and increase p… Show more

“…Cell death occurs due to drug interference with protein synthesis and misreading of messenger RNA, which leads to changes in membrane function, causing the release of constituents essential for cell viability. 57 In the drug-modifying assays with amikacin ( Figure 2), there was an interaction of OEOg and Eugenol with the antibiotic, resulting in synergism in both S. aureus and E. coli. That is, when amikacin was combined with the test substances, there was an statistically significant increase in the inhibition halo.…”

“…Nephrotoxicity, ototoxicity and neuromuscular blockade are the most important toxic effects of aminoglycosides (Oliveira, 2006;Vallejo et al, 2001). The adverse effects of clindamycin consist mainly of gastrointestinal disorders that can manifest as severe diarrhea and pseudomembranous colitis (Katzung, 2005).…”

“…In contrast, the strain was sensitive to the antibiotic nitrofurantoin [28,32]. It seems interesting that the strain is sensitive to the drug present in use since 1952 (Nitrofurantoin) [33] while it shows resistance to the above-mentioned antibiotics later introduced into medical use (Table 3).…”
