Show more

“…The amphistomatic and hypostomatic patterns of distribution of stomata observed in species of Solanum sect. Polytrichum , were previously reported for species of others sections of Solanum by Ahmad (1964), Araújo et al (2010), Granada‐Chacón and Benítez‐Rojas (2005), and Nurit‐Silva et al (2011), inter alia , being the amphistomatic type the most common in all studied species of Solanum . Acccording to Parkhust (1978), amphistomatic feature may represent a means of increasing the photosynthetic rate to allow efficient gas exchange compared with the hypostomatic type, which was observed only in Solanum asterophorum .…”

“…Despite being a common type of trichome observed in the studied species of Solanum sect. Polytrichum , similar trichomes are also recorded for species of other groups such as the section Crinitum (Araújo et al, 2010). The stellate‐glandular trichome only observed in Solanum sublentum is a characteristic type of species of Solanum sect.…”

“…According to Martins and Appezzato-da-Glória (2006), correct histochemical characterization and identification ensure confidence in the use the plants for therapeutic purposes and in complimentary chemical studies. Araújo et al (2010) and cite that histochemical studies in Solanum are not much explored.…”
