Estudo mineral das espécies vegetais Alternanthera brasiliana (L.) Kuntze e Bouchea fluminensis (Vell) Mold.

Abstract: "Mineral evaluation of the species Alternanthera brasiliana (L.) Kuntze andBouchea fl uminensis (Vell) Mold.". Alternanthera brasiliana and Bouchea fl uminensis are plants widely distributed in South America. These plants are used by native populations as analgesic and anti-infl ammatory agent. The aim of this paper was to assay the total ashes and mineral content in both species. The levels of total ashes in leaves of A. brasiliana and B. fl uminensis were 13.23% ± 0.47 and 8.28% ± 0.07, respectively. The ana… Show more

“…For thousands of years, the natural world has been a source of medicinal agents, bioactive compounds and prototype drugs with economic potential. Brazil is world renowned for its rich biodiversity of plant species, many of which have been the subject of pharmacological studies aiming to broaden the range of herbal pharmaceutics (Delaporte et al, ; Yunes and Cechinel‐Filho, ).…”

“…Although Trichilia catigua is the most widely used and studied species, more than 10 species of different genera and families are popularly known as catuaba, which can cause confusion, fraud or tampering (Beltrame et al, ; Kletter et al, ). Moreover, it is known that the quality of plant drugs is influenced by many genetic and environmental factors (Delaporte et al, ; Resende et al, ; Yunes and Cechinel‐Filho, ), and that chiral separations remains a major challenge in natural products analysis (Evans and Stalcup, ). Therefore, regulatory agencies are requiring increasingly rigorous standardisation and quality control of raw material and products derived from plant species (Yunes and Cechinel‐Filho, ).…”

“…Mold., popularly known as gervão-falso ("false verbena") or gervão-de-folha-grande ("large-leaf verbena"), is a herbaceous plants found in Brazil and Bolivia (Troncoso 1974;Pupo et al 2008a). The plant is used in traditional medicine for its properties of stimulating and regulating the digestive system (Delaporte et al 2002), as well as for its anti-inflammatory, antifungal and analgesic effects (Delaporte et al 2001(Delaporte et al , 2002Costa et al 2003;Falcão et al 2005;Fenner et al 2006;Pupo et al 2008aPupo et al , 2008b. Chemical studies of B. fluminensis have isolated the organic compounds responsible for the pharmacological effects of the species (von Poser et al 1997;Schuquel et al 1998;Delaporte et al 2002).…”
