Análise comparativa da anatomia foliar de Melastomataceae em ambiente de vereda e cerrado sensu stricto

Abstract: ABSTRACT(Comparative analysis of Melastomataceae leaf anatomy in palm swamp and cerrado sensu stricto environments). Th is study describes the anatomy of the leaf blade of three species of Melastomataceae, Lavoisiera bergii Cogn., Macairea radula (Bonpl.) DC. and Trembleya parvifl ora (D. Don) Cogn., which colonize the fl ooded and open areas of a lower zone of palm swamp, and the M. radula and T. parvifl ora, which occur in cerrado sensu stricto, of the Estação Ecológica de Águas Emendadas, Planaltina, DF. St… Show more

“…The Cerrado has different phytophysiognomies, and very few studies about its ecological plant anatomy have been found, such as those conducted by Somavilla and Ribeiro (2011), and Bieras (2009), who suggest the adaptive strategies adopted by plant species typical of savannah environments.…”

“…Regarding the epidermis, the greater sinuosity of the cell wall on the abaxial leaf surface and the presence of hypostomatic leaves, which have also been observed in T. parviflora (D. Don) Cogn. (Somavilla & Graciano‐Ribeiro ), are frequent in Trembleya . However, these characters may also occur in Lavoisiera , Microlicia, and Rhynchanthera species and are considered important for the recognition of species.…”

“…Intraspecific variation may maximise resource capture (Grime and Mackey, 2002), which potentially contribute to the colonisation of heterogeneous habitats. To date, most studies addressing intraspecific variation in plant traits of Cerrado species have focused on comparison of individuals occurring in habitats with two opposing environmental conditions, such as open versus shaded (Rossatto and Kolb, 2010) or dry versus flooded physiognomies (Somavilla and Graciano-Ribeiro, 2011). The patchy distribution of Cerrado physiognomies makes such a dichotomous distribution unrealistic, so knowledge on trait variation along ecological gradients is especially important for a better understanding of trait-environment associations in the Cerrado (Bedetti et al, 2011).…”
