Dispersão de sementes de Vismia cayennensis (Jacq.) Pers. (Guttiferae) por morcegos na região de Manaus, Amazonas

Abstract: -(Seed di spersai of Vismia cayel1lle/lSis (Jacq.) Pers (Guttiferae) by bats in Manau s, Amazonas). We studied the feeding behavior of bats and their role in the seed dispersai of Visll1ia cayel1nellsis in Manau s regian, Amazonas State, northe rn Brazil. The characteristics of lhe piam and its fruits fit the chiropterocory sy ndrome. Fi ve species of phyllostomid bals fed on Visll1ia fruit s: Slumira /i/ium, Slum.ira lildae. “…Seed dispersal evaluation -Fruit position in relation to the architecture of branches and leaves is considered a good trait to point to its frugivores and how they access the fruit (Pijl 1972;Uieda &Vasconcellos-Neto 1985;Marinho-Filho & Vasconcellos-Neto 1994). Fruits can be exposed outside the top (upper, below), and could also be at the same level or inside the foliage.…”

“…Frugivorous bats have great ecological importance due to their role in regulating tropical ecosystems, such as the Atlantic Forest, where they are crucial for the dynamics and regeneration of tropical forests, including the establishment of pioneer species (Marinho-Filho & Vasconcellos-Neto, 1994;Cole & Wilson, 1996;Mikich & Bianconi, 2005;Mello et al 2008). Abiotic factors such as temperature and photoperiod, have a great influence on the reproductive cycle of bats (Heideman et al 1992;Mello et al 2009).…”

“…It has been demonstrated that the reproductive cycle of the bat Sturnira lilium can be directly influenced by factors such as temperature and food availability (Bronson, 1985;Mello et al 2009). This species has great ecological importance for its role in the pollination and constitutes important seed dispersers of various tropical plants (Marinho-Filho & Vasconcellos-Neto, 1994;Vieira & Carvalho-Okano, 1996;Sazima et al 2003).…”

“…As plantas zoocóricas são adaptadas para atraírem e recompensarem seus dispersores potenciais (Howe, 1980;Marinho-Filho & Vasconcelos-Neto, 1994). Nas florestas tropicais mais de 75% das espécies de árvores produzem frutos carnosos adaptados para o consumo de aves e mamíferos (Howe & Smallwood, 1982;as sementes encontradas nas fezes passam intactas pelo trato digestório do animal.…”
