This study aims to translate and validate Early Trauma Inventory Self Report -Short Form (ETISR-SF) to Brazilian Portuguese. 253 adult subjects answered the ETISR-SF, Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Fagerström Test for Nicotine Dependence (FTND), Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and Fast Alcohol Screening Test (FAST). The instrument showed good internal consistency (0.83). Correlations with the PHQ-9 and BAI were moderate (r=0.26-0.47) and showed the expected associations with psychiatric constructs. No associations were found for FTND and FAST. Confirmatory Factor Analysis revealed that a correlated four-factor model as well as a second order model subsuming four lower order components presented the best model fit. Test-retest reliability was also excellent (ICC=0.78-0.90). ETISR-SF is suitable for assessing traumatic experiences in a Brazilian community sample. Given the importance of trauma as a public health problem, tools such as ETISR-SF may help clinicians/ researchers to better evaluate and measure such events and further advance clinical care of trauma victims.

New evidence suggests that the cerebellum has structural and functional abnormalities in psychiatric disorders.ObjectiveIn this research, the goal was to measure the volume of the cerebellum and its subregions in individuals with psychiatric disorders and to relate these findings to their symptoms.MethodsPatients with different degrees of cognitive impairment (Epidemiology of the Elderly - UNIFESP) and patients with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) from population studies were analyzed. Also, patients with bipolar disorder from an outpatient clinic (Center for the Study of Mood and Anxiety Disorders, Universidade Federal da Bahia) were recruited for this study. All subjects underwent a 1.5T structural magnetic resonance scan. Volumetric measures and symptom measurements, by psychometric scales, were performed and compared between patients and controls.ResultsThe cerebellum volume was reduced in patients with cognitive impairment without dementia and with dementia, in patients with PTSD, and in patients with bipolar disorder compared to controls. In dementia and PTSD, the left cerebellar hemisphere and vermis volume were reduced. In bipolar disorder, volumes of both hemispheres and the vermis were reduced. In the first two studies, these cerebellar volumetric reductions correlated with symptoms of the disease.ConclusionThe exact nature of cerebellar involvement in mental processes is still not fully understood. However, abnormalities in cerebellar structure and its functions have been reported in some of these diseases. Future studies with larger samples are needed to clarify these findings and investigate whether they are important for treatment and prognosis.

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi identificar e descrever os instrumentos mais frequentemente utilizados nas pesquisas epidemiológicas para a avaliação das Experiências Adversas na Infância, nos últimos dez anos. Trata-se de uma revisão da literatura, cujos critérios de inclusão foram artigos disponíveis na íntegra, nos idiomas inglês, espanhol e português, publicados e indexados nas bases de dados Medline e Lilacs, que citassem no resumo os instrumentos de avaliação utilizados nos estudos. Foram analisados 6 dos 38 instrumentos identificados nos 253 artigos selecionados para análise. Os instrumentos mais citados foram: 1) Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, 2) Childhood Experience of Care and Abuse, 3) Adverse Childhood Experiences Questionnaire, 4) Child Abuse and Trauma Scale, 5) Early Trauma Inventory Self Report e 6) Adverse Childhood Experiences International Questionnaire. Os instrumentos descritos diferiram quanto às propriedades psicométricas, à idade para aplicação e à quantidade de Experiências Adversas na Infância avaliadas. Predominaram estudos publicados em periódicos internacionais na língua inglesa. Três instrumentos apresentam versão em português vigente no Brasil, sendo que um deles considera somente a avaliação de aspectos específicos de Experiências Adversas na Infância, enquanto que os outros dois avaliam, também, outras experiências traumáticas.
