“…According to Nobre et al 11 (1994), dengue fever has important socioeconomic implications, as it affects major urban centers, causes work absenteeism, reduces tourist flow, increases health service demand and requires great amounts of financial resources to be spent. Gonçalves Neto & Rebelo 6 (2004) and Vasconcelos et al 22 (1993), who used the city as the spatial unit of analysis, indicated greater risk of being infected by dengue in individuals from the economically active range. Studies that used districts 3,17,21 and census tracts 7 as spatial units of analysis indicated the same risk, revealing the disease's major negative effect on the economy of the affected area.…”
