OBJECTIVE: to identify social and environmental factors associated with hospitalization of tuberculosis (TB) patients in Manaus, Amazonas, during 2010. METHODS: this is a quantitative cross-sectional epidemiological study, with primary data collection and analysis of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), based on seropositive status. RESULTS: Among social factors for TB-HIV co-infection, the association between alcohol use and dependence was significant for employed workers; among non-co-infections, the association between income less than one minimum wage (U.S. $200) and retired people, Bolsa Família Program [Family Allowance]/other social benefits was significant. Regarding environmental factors, the association was significant for TB-HIV co-infection among those not having their own house, having masonry housing and daily garbage collection; and among non-co-infection, owning their own house, no masonry housing and lack of daily garbage collection was significant. CONCLUSION: The findings indicated that not only social factors, but also environmental ones are associated with hospitalization of tuberculosis patients, and such associations differ according to TB-HIV co-infection. Findings revealed that the non-biological factors associated with hospitalization of tuberculosis patients should be considered when caring patients with this disease.

Computer technologies have significantly evolved in their ways of interacting with humans. This article analyzes the effects of the large-scale invasion of ICTs in the lives of families in the Brazilian Amazon, assessing the impacts on their socio-emotional relationships. The analysis is based on two exploratory and predominantly qualitative studies conducted with families living in the Metropolitan Region of Belém, State of Pará, located in the Brazilian Amazon. One of the studies monitored 143 families daily during the period of confinement imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic in April 2020. The second study surveyed 71 families, obtaining data on socio-emotional aspects. The findings point out a conservative behavior toward technology, even in the face of a radical behavior change in social interactions.

Este trabalho analisa a decomposição de probabilidade de inserção de homens e mulheres no mercado de trabalho para o ano de 2015. Os dados são provenientes da PNAD, Pesquisa Nacional por Amostra de Domicílios, em sua base de microdados para 2015. Utilizou-se o modelo de escolha qualitativa Probit que resulta na probabilidade de um indivíduo estar inserido no mercado de trabalho de acordo com as suas características individuais. A partir daí foi realizada a Decomposição de Fairlie, que permite comparar como as características individuais afetam de forma diferente o fato de homens e mulheres estarem inseridos no mercado. Como principais resultados tem-se que as variáveis que mais explicaram o diferencial de ingresso feminino foram educação e experiência, sendo ambas, características produtivas. Já para o diferencial de ingresso masculino a principal variável foi referente ao indivíduo ser a pessoa de referência no domicílio. Tais resultados indicam que as mulheres precisam mais que compensar suas características produtivas em relação aos homens, para terem a mesma chance de acesso ao mercado formal de trabalho.
