Abstract: ABSTRACT.The Mampituba River drains a watershed with 1,200 km 2 in area, having its springs in the Serra Geral and debouching to the Atlantic Ocean at city of Torres, after running a 62 km long course. It has a mean discharge of 18.6 m 3 .s -1 , a mean depth around 4 m and is under a microtidal regime. An oceanographic campaign was carried out at May 17 th , 2008, when water level, currents, salinity and suspended sediment concentration were recorded during two tidal cycles (25 hours). The water level presente… Show more

“…It may explain why 222 Rn activity is higherin this region than the one found in the other sites in the area under study. In the same region, the mouth of the Mampituba River (Figure 1), a small body of water with an average flow of only 19m³.s -1 [39], can give small contributions to 222 Rn activity during flood periods. However, this activity probably reaches only a few meters from its mouth.…”

“…The average depth is 4 m and the mouth is stabilized by a pair of jetties (north jetty, 100 m and south jetty, 260 m). The tidal pattern is microtidal and is primarily governed by the wind regime (D'Aquino et al 2011).…”
