Reconstituição do clima de ondas no sul-sudeste brasileiro entre 1997 e 2005

Abstract: ABSTRACT.A criterious hindcasting study of the South Atlantic Ocean wave field was made using the model WAVEWATCH III including tests to evaluate which numerical grid would provide the best configuration for the wind and other atmospherics forcing regarding the calibration of the respective fields. It was observed that the wind forcing values were slightly underestimated for speeds below 7.5 m/s and overestimated for speeds above this value for specific sites at Campos and Santos Basins (Brazil). Thus, it was … Show more

“…The exposed sandy beaches are dominated by high-energy waves (WRIGHT; SHORT, 1984). Several authors have already described the wave pattern at the south region of the Brazilian coast, for instance: Siegle and Asp (2007), Alves et al (2009) and Pianca, Mazzini and Siegle (2010). These studies agreed that the southwest sea waves are dominant at the south Atlantic ocean.…”

“…Initially, all the negative values of significant wave height were eliminated, as this variable can only be represented by positive values. Also, significant wave height with values above 13 m were disregarded, considering that, on the Brazilian southeastern coast, the highest value observed was just under this outlier limit (Alves et al, 2009). Gravity waves generated by the wind have typical periods between 0.5 and 25 s (Leblond, 2002).…”

“…The WW3 spatial resolution is of 1° x 1.25° (latitude x longitude) and solves the random phase spectral action density balance equation (Tolman, 1999). This model has already been used and validated in other studies (e.g., Alves et al, 2009;Bento et al, 2018;Gonçalves et al, 2020;Li et al, 2016;Pegorelli et al, 2018;Stopa et al, 2013Stopa et al, , 2011Sun et al, 2020).…”
