Tomato progenies selection in Rondônia, Brazil

Abstract: This study aimed to select endogamic progenies of tomato cv. Yoshimatsu and to conduct a progeny test in the state of Rondônia. The experiment was carried out in a randomized block design with four replicates and eight plants per plot, spacing 1x0.5 m, with one stem. A significant variation was observed among the fifteen progenies for productivity (2.0-5.5 kg plant-1), seed mass with placenta (18-31.5 g fruit-1), number of fruits per plant (18.8-38.7) and soluble solids (3.4-4.2°Brix). No significant variation… Show more

“…The superiority in the size of the tomatoes of the BC 1 F 3 dwarf populations compared to those produced by the donor parent confirms the success of the breeding method used in this study. The increase in tomato fruit size is associated with increases in MW, TD, LD, PT, and NL ( Marques et al, 2019 , Tijskens et al, 2020 ). Similar results were observed by Finzi et al (2020) , who evaluated the same agronomic variables and reported the superiority of the BC 1 F 2 dwarf populations of round type tomatoes in relation to the dwarf donor parent belonging to the cherry/grape segment.…”
