Description of Guyruita gen. nov. and two new species (Ischnocolinae, Theraphosidae)

Abstract: The genus Guyruita gen. nov. and two new species from Brazil are described. Holothele waikoshiemi (Bertani & Araújo, 2005) from Venezuela is transferred here to the new genus. Guyruita gen. nov. differs from the remaining Ischnocolinae by the following features: labium densely occupied by a lot of cuspules (more than 100), intercheliceral intumescence absent, posterior sternal sigilla remote from margin, tarsal claws without teeth, tarsal scopula I-II undivided (tarsus II with a line of sparse setae, which… Show more

“…Some of the genera hitherto included in ‘Ischnocolinae’ have been revised or recently described, providing updated diagnoses and descriptions, namely Catumiri (see original description in Guadanucci ), Oligoxystre (see revision in Guadanucci ), Nesiergus (see revision in Guadanucci & Gallon ), Chaetopelma (see revision in Guadanucci & Gallon ), Ischnocolus (see revision Guadanucci & Wendt ), Sickius (monotypic – S. longibulbi – see genus revalidation in Bertani & Silva ), Guyruita (see original description in Guadanucci et al . ) and Plesiophrictus (see taxonomic notes in Guadanucci ). The genera Oligoxystre , Catumiri and Plesiophrictus did not appear close to any group in the MPTs to justify the establishment of a new supra‐generic group (e.g.…”

“…The knowledge on ‘Ischnocolinae’ systematic is very poor, and the inclusion of genera in the subfamily is typically based only on the absence of synapomophies of the remaining nine subfamilies. There are 12 genera currently included in ‘Ischnocolinae’ (Raven ; Gallon & Gabriel ; Platnick ): the Neotropical fauna is represented by Acanthopelma F. O. P.‐Cambridge, 1897, Catumiri Guadanucci, , Guyruita Guadanucci et al ., , Hemiercus Simon, , Holothele Karsch, 1879, Oligoxystre Vellard, 1924 and Sickius Soares & Camargo, 1948; while the Old World fauna is represented by the following genera: Chaetopelma Ausserer, , Heterothele Karsch, 1879, Ischnocolus Ausserer, , Nesiergus Simon, and Plesiophrictus Pocock, 1899.…”

“…Additionally, five recorded species are widely distributed and/or can be found in synanthropic environments: Argiope argentata (Fabricius, 1775) (Araneidae), Micropholcus fauroti (Simon, 1887) (Pholcidae), Philoponella vittata (Keyserling, 1881) I-II, and divided tarsal scopula III-IV (Guadanucci et al 2007). The females of G. waikoshiemi can be distinguished from congeners by the incrassate tibia I (Guadanucci et al 2007; see Figure 14) and by the spermathecae being multilobulated at the apical portion (Guadanucci et al 2007; see Figure 15). The female specimen presented the diagnostic features for the genus (Figures 12 and 13) and species (Figures 14 and 15), but its spermathecae presented sclerotized receptacles positioned more apically than the holotype specimen drawn by Bertani & Araújo (2006).…”

“…The genus, originally established as monotypic, was described based on a female from Caracas, Venezuela, named H. recta Karsch, 1879 as type-species. The inclusion of all other species currently within the genus is due to subsequent transfers or descriptions, along with other species that have already been removed from Holothele in the past years (Guadanucci et al 2007;Guadanucci & Weinmann 2014, 2015. Raven (1985) considered Holothele as a senior synonym of Schismatothele Karsch, 1879, Euthycaelus Simon, 1889, Hemiercus Simon, 1903, Scopelobates Simon, 1903and Dryptopelmides Strand, 1907.…”
