Show more

“…Entrance diameter ranges from 5-11 mm (Morato, 2001a;. The 2-11 brood cells are linear, some with vestibules and preliminary plugs (Morato, 2001a; Alves-dos- Santos, 2004;. Anthodioctes megachiloides Holmberg 1903 nests sometimes have intercalary cells and distal empty space (Alves-dos- Santos, 2004).…”

“…Some bees gather plant fibers in order to be used for coating their cells; some, utilize resin, often cobbled with other materials, such as pebbles, leaf pieces or clay. Despite the little knowledge about the nesting habits of those bees, and moreover, the information on that regard are exclusively based on groups that have built nests in trap-nests (Alves-dos-Santos, 2004;Alves-dos-Santoset al, 2004;Camarotti-de-Lima & Martins, 2005), yet a few biological and ecological data are related to the Anthidiini in Brazil (Camarotti- de-Lima & Martins, 2005).…”

“…The tribe also possesses obligatory cleptoparasitic genera that parasitize other species of Megachilinae, with a few taxa attacking unrelated bee groups, such as Hoplostelis Dominique that parasitizes nests of orchid bees (Apinae, Euglossini). Reports on the nest biology of the tribe are relatively scarce, especially for neotropical taxa (Jörgensen 1912, Claude-Joseph 1926, Janvier 1955, Laroca and Rosado-Neto 1975, Morato and Campos 2000, Morato 2001, Alves-dos-Santos 2004, Camarotti-de-Lima and Martins 2005, Zanella and Ferreira 2005, Rozen 2015, Alvarez et al 2015. Among Brazilian species, limited information indicates that Dicranthidium arenarium (Ducke, 1907) (Laroca and Rosado-Neto 1975) and Anthodioctes manauara Urban, 1999(Morato 2001 construct their nests in abandoned mud nest of eumenine wasps.…”
