Novo registro de Micronycteris hirsuta (Peters) (Mammalia, Chiroptera, Phyllostomidae) na Mata Atlântica, Estado do Rio de Janeiro, Brasil

Abstract: Duas novas ocorrências do morcego Phyllostomidae, Micronycteris hirsuta (Peters, 1869) são registradas na Mata Atlântica, ambas no Estado do Rio de Janeiro, sudeste do Brasil.

“…In the Cerrado, riparian or gallery forests are humid mesophytic formations that occur along watercourses (Eiten 1990). Although our record may be considered the first for the Brazilian cerrado, it is important to highlight that this species seems to prefer humid environments in primary and secondary forests (Genoways and Williams 1986;Peracchi and Albuquerque 1993;Bernard and Fenton 2002;Esbérard 2004) and inside forest fragments (Faria 2006).…”

“…In Brazil, M. hirsuta has been recorded only in the Amazon and Atlantic Forest (Paglia et al 2012), in the states of Acre, Amazonas, Bahia, Espírito Santo, Pará, Rio de Janeiro, and Roraima (Mok et al 1982;Peracchi and Albuquerque, 1985;Nogueira et al 1999;Simmons et al 2002;Esbérard 2004;Bernard and Fenton 2007;Faria et al 2006). Our specimen was collected from a secondary riparian forest, in a Cerrado area in the municipality of Ribeiro Gonçalves (07°40'57" S; 45°09'30" W), approximately 15 km away from the Parnaíba River.…”

“…Species such as M. hirsuta and P. stenops have low density in Atlantic Forest areas (REIS et al 2007, SAMPAIO et al 2008a, b, PERACCHI & NOGUEIRA 2010, which explains their low abundance in our data. These two species had only been previously recorded twice in the state (PERACCHI & ALBUQUERQUE 1993, ESBÉRARD 2004, ESBÉRARD & FARIA 2006.…”

“…Additionally, these species are not known from other bettersampled Brazilian states in southeastern or southern Brazil. Examples of these species are Lichonycteris obscura (Taddei & Pedro 1993, Zortéa et al 1998, Glyphonycteris daviesi (Gregorin & Rossi in press), M. hirsuta (Esbérard 2004), T. nicefori (Peracchi & Albuquerque 1986, 1993, C. brevicauda (Peracchi & Albuquerque 1993), R. pumilio (Peracchi & Albuquerque 1993, Pedro & Passos 1995, Zortéa 1995, and, from the current study, V. caraccioli. For all these species, a discontinuous distribution pattern may represent sampling bias rather than a truly disjunct distribution, because central Brazil is much less sampled than the Atlantic forest areas (L. Aguiar.…”
