“…In Brazil, imposex was observed in the muricids Stramonita haemastoma (Lanneus, 1767) (Castro et al, 2000;Fernandez et al, 2002;Fernandez et al, 2005;, Stramonita rustica (Lamarck, 1822) (Camillo et al, 2004;Castro et al, 2004), and in the olivid Olivancillaria vesica (Gmelin, 1791) (Caetano & Absalão, 2003).…”

“…The olivid Olivella minuta and the terebrid Hastula cinerea have wide geographical distribution along the Western Atlantic coast (Rios 1994;Simone 2009), where they inhabit coastal environments, including exposed and sheltered sandy beaches and estuaries (Amaral et al 2003;Guisla et al 2004;Denadai et al 2005;Araújo and Rocha-Barreira 2012;Petracco et al 2014). Olivid and terebrid species were previously reported as having developed imposex, including Amalda australis (Stewart et al 1992), Olivancillaria vesica (Caetano and Absalão 2002), Olivancillaria deshayesiana (Teso and Penchaszadeh 2009), and Olivella biplicata (Jenner 1979), Terebra dislocata, Terebra protexta, and Duplicaria spectabilis (Shi et al 2005). However, there are no records or assessment of imposex on O. minuta and H. cinerea.…”

“…Although the majority of imposex studies worldwide (Gibbs & Bryan, 1987;Gooding et al, 1999;Gibson & Wilson, 2003) and in Brazil (Fernandez, 2001;Fernandez et al, 2002;2005bPinheiro et al, 2006;Quadros, 2004;Castro, 2005;Castro et al, 2007;Camillo et al, 2004;Caetano & Absalão, 2002;Castro et al, 2004) have used neogastropod species, mesogastropods have Costa et al been also used despite being less sensitive in most cases (Mensink et al, 2002;Castro et al, 2003) 1 .…”
