Haematological characteristics of Brazilian Teleosts: III. Parameters of the hybrid tambacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus Holmberg x Colossoma macropomum Cuvier) (Osteichthyes, Characidae)

Abstract: ABSTRACT. Fifty six spec imens orthe hybrid "tambacu" (Piaraclus mesopotamicus Holmberg, 1887male x Co/assoma macropomum Cuvier, 1818 female) werc collccted from fishfarm ofGllariba, São Paulo, to evaluate their haematology. Fishes presented 400.0 to 3, I 00.0 g total weight and 20.0 to 52.0 cm total length. Haemoglobin, hacmatocrit, mean corpuscular haemoglobi n content (MCHC) and percentage of defense blood cells including leucocytes and thrombocytes, were stud ied. Statistical ana lysis showed positi ve cor… Show more

“…Like the hematocrit, haemoglobin concentration decreased under brackish water media. Tavares-Dias et al (2000) found a positive correlation Eosinophil (% WBC) 13.3 ± 2.5a 12.0 ± 4.3a 11.6 ± 2.5a 12.6 ± 4.1a 11.6 ± 1.5a…”

“…Tavares‐Dias, Schalch, Martins, Onaka & Moraes (2000) demonstrated a positive correlation between Hb concentration and percentage Hct. Also, there were increases in RBC, WBC and Hb of Labeo rohita after feeding with mango (Sahu, Das, Mishra, Pradhan & Sarangi 2007a) and garlic (Shalaby, Khattab & Abdel Rahman 2006; Sahu et al.…”

“…In order to determine erythrocyte number, a blood smear was done (Tavares‐Dias, Tenani, Giolli & Faustino, ). Mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular haemoglobin (MCH) and mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration (MCHC) were determined from erythrocyte number, haemoglobin index and haematocrit (Wintrobe, ).…”
