In the Western hemisphere, two genera, Amblycerus Thunberg, 1815 ( Amblycerini : Amblycerina ) and Acanthoscelides Schilsky, 1905 ( Bruchini : Acanthoscelidina ), stand out as the most hyperdiverse genera ( Kingsolver 1990 , Ribeiro-Costa 1999 ), the first with 340 species ( Kingsolver 1990 ) and the second with more than 100 species ( Romero et al 1996 , Ribeiro-Costa 2000 ).
