“…Ihering (1897) recorded Sanguinolaria sanguinolenta and Strigilla pisiformis at Ilhabela beaches, but these species were only found at the Barequeçaba Beach in this survey. Some species collected in the present study but not found by Migotto et al (1993) and Salvador et al (1998) Due to possibly insufficient search effort at some sites, species previously reported in other studies were not found. The absence of such species in our data does not necessarily show that they are no longer extant in the area.…”

“…Most species are now restricted to relatively limited geographic ranges and have specialized niches being, therefore, considered a group of rare species (Coan & Valentich‐Scott, ; Harper, Dreyer, & Steiner, ; Harper, Hide, & Morton, ; Morton, ). Species from the families Cuspidariidae, Pandoridae, Periplomatidae and Thraciidae have been recorded from the northern coast of São Paulo state, in southeastern Brazil (Amaral & Nallin, ; Migotto, Tiago, & Magalhães, ; Salvador, Domaneschi, Amaral, Morgado, & Henriques, ; Soares‐Gomes & Pires‐Vanin, ; Tallarico et al, ).…”
