Multicriteria approach to data envelopment analysis

Abstract: With the aim of making Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) more acceptable to the managers' community, the Weights Restrictions approaches were born. They allow DEA to not dispose of any data and permit the Decision Maker (DM) to have some management over the method. The purpose of this paper is to suggest a Weights Restrictions DEA model that incorporates the DM preference. In order to perform that, we employed the MACBETH methodology as a tool to find out the bounds of the weights to be used in a Weights Restric… Show more

“…Following Bana e Costa et al (1999) guidelines, we applied the MACBETH technique to our framework, considering the previously mentioned categories. For consistency purposes (Junior 2008), formulations (2) and (3) given below were also analyzed based on the experts' value judgements, i.e., , 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 , , , , with ( , ) and ( , ) :…”

“…In this sense, and based on the different semantic categories C k presented before, formulation (3) states "that all of the differences allocated to one semantic preference difference category are strictly larger than those allocated to a lower category" (Bana e Costa et al 2008). Once analyzed the consistency of the decision makers' value judgements, linear programming is then applied according to (4) (Junior 2008), and an initial scale is generated and presented for discussion. and is bigger than between and , then: ) 1 ( , , , ),…”

“…Despite the progress that has taken place in overcoming this problem (e.g. Kaplan and norton, 2000;Suwignjo et al, 2000;Santos et al, 2002 and2008), it is recognized that there are still issues which deserve further research and discussion. the same is reported as far as trade-off procedures among criteria is concerned.…”

“…as such, based on value preferences, the technical procedure consists in allocating the difference of attractiveness between each pair of actions (a, b) ∈ X to one of the previously mentioned categories. formulations (2) and (3) are also analyzed for consistency purposes (Junior, 2008).…”
