Resumo Objetivo (a) Identificar a prevalência de dor musculoesquelética atual e lesão no último ano e (b) verificar a associação da presença de dor atual e da história de lesão com características demográficas, da prática esportiva e da saúde em skatistas. Método O presente estudo observacional transversal foi realizado com 64 skatistas que responderam a um questionário abordando características demográficas, da prática esportiva e da saúde. O teste exato de Fisher verificou a associação dessas características com a presença de dor atual e com o relato de lesão no último ano. O teste de qui-quadrado verificou se havia diferença entre a distribuição observada e a esperada para o segmento corporal relatado com dor e com histórico de lesão, e com o tipo de lesão. Resultados A prevalência de dor foi de 82,8%, sendo a frequência observada maior do que a esperada (p < 0,01) no joelho, no tornozelo, na região lombossacra e no pé. A presença de dor foi associada à faixa etária (p = 0,05) e a tratamento fisioterápico prévio (p < 0,01). A prevalência de lesão no último ano foi de 68,8%, sendo a frequência observada maior do que a esperada (p < 0,01) no joelho, no tornozelo, no punho, na mão, no pé e no ombro. Entorse e fratura apresentaram uma frequência observada maior do que a esperada (p < 0,01). O histórico de lesão foi associado ao uso de equipamento de proteção (p = 0,01), cirurgia prévia (p = 0,02) e tratamento fisioterápico (p = 0,03). Conclusão A prática de skate apresenta uma prevalência alta de dor e de lesões no último ano. Os achados podem contribuir com o planejamento de estratégias preventivas.

Modern skateboarding (Street) uses the urban architecture (banks, walls, steps, handrails) as obstacles, with the skateboarder making use of a variety of different types of tricks to overcome the obstacles (Candotti et al., 2012). Research has shown the practice of skateboarding in urban regions to present a greater risk of injuries and accidents (Everett, 2002), where the most affected are children and untrained beginners (Department…, 2013; Fountain and Meyers, 1996; Forsman and Eriksson, 2001). Given the growing popularity of this sport and its intrinsic risk factor, alternative ways to assist the development of this discipline should be pursued, and the use of computerassisted assessment (CAA) may be a promising tool. Exertion Games, also called exergames, are games where the application of physical effort by the user is necessary (Muller et al., 2008). Studies have already proven that interactive simulations can lead to an improvement in sports performance, such as with skating and ice speed skating (Stienstra et al., 2011), rowing (Broker and Crawley, 2001), and even swimming (Marc et al., 2009).

Maximizing ollie height by optimizing control strategy and skateboard geometry using direct collocation

The ollie is the base aerial human–board maneuver, foundational to most modern skateboarding tricks. We formulate and solve an optimal control problem of a two-dimensional simplified human model and a rigid body skateboard with the objective of maximizing the height of the ollie. Our solution simultaneously discovers realistic human-applied force trajectories and optimal board geometry. We accomplish this with a direct collocation formulation using a null seed initial guess by carefully modeling the discontinuous aspects of board–ground impact and foot–board friction. This leads to efficient and robust solutions that are 10 times more computationally efficient than prior work on similar problems. The solutions show that ollie height can increase 3% by decreasing the wheelbase and that a smaller board with a back-foot-dominated force strategy can give 12% higher ollies. Our model can be used to inform jump strategy and the effects of changes to the essential board geometry.
